Kolkata Durga Puja tour 2015 - theme on Bengali folk art on clay

Artistic theme on clay

Deva Ganesha greeted us from the gate top. I could discern the theme would be on clay, my favorite.

Standing below the awning of the gate the huge welcoming mythical figure looked a bit awesome, but nevertheless it was a pleasing visual.

The milling crowd looked like pygmies in front of the huge figure.

The sky-high welcoming figure with clay lamp in hand looked far ahead. We proceeded towards the entrance to the inner sanctum.

Inside, the small happy family caught my eye first. Lovely curves and soft colors. We grew up with Bengali clay art and didn't expect to meet such a beautiful piece all on a sudden.

We payed homage to the Devi, serene, assuring rejuvenation.

Looking above, the beauty of the roof held my attention. I never thought a roof could be made so attractive with cheap clay pottery and intelligent lighting.

On the way out the tribal family I couldn't ignore.

Overall the beautiful clay art invoked long lost pleasurable memories.
